The Senior UX Researcher Role

The Senior UX Researcher plays a vital role within the ZoCo team, taking on leadership of your own projects, supporting the creation of research processes, and working directly with clients to understand their needs and objectives. Actively driving collaboration among the creative team and advocating for human-focused design practices that create thoughtful and effective design solutions will be among your primary duties. You will provide focused attention to translating insights and opportunities into actionable tactical design implications. You are an experienced UX Researcher who can lead generative research projects and develop insights, leveraging both qualitative and quantitative data, to inform our experience design, product design, and brand practices.

This role works frequently with our account team but is also detail-oriented and able to set timelines for their tasks and meet them. You will work closely with leadership and your peers to ensure the team’s output aligns to project scope, client goals, and high strategic standards.

In this role, you must be able to:

UX Research Responsibilities (85% of your role)

  • Leverage a toolbelt of mixed research methods with the understanding of when to apply which method in each situation
  • Create all research study materials, including deliverables like screeners, discussion guides, surveys, usability tests, and make tools
  • Facilitate remote and in-person workshops, interviews, co-creation sessions, usability tests, and focus groups — whether with the client team or their external audiences
  • Analyze research findings collaboratively using techniques like coding and clustering
  • Articulate research findings into accessible, story-driven reports outlining the themes and opportunities
  • Translate research themes into easy to understand design concepts, especially in relation to digital experience design
  • Collaborate with your design peers and provide thoughtful feedback and discussion
  • Contribute to the development of customer journeys, wireframes, content, and visual designs
  • Work closely with the design and UX teams to align our work to research insights—you are the user advocate and insight expert for new ideas

Research Leadership Responsibilities (15% of your role)

    • Mentor and support less experienced design/research peers on research projects and initiatives
    • Support the creation of and improve upon UX processes to lead more efficient, thoughtful, and impactful solutions
    • Provide thoughtful critical feedback to your peers to ensure the highest quality deliverables

What you’ll bring with you:

  • 4-year degree or equivalent work experience related to this role
  • 3–5 years of experience conducting quant & qual research
  • Portfolio or case stories demonstrating experience in UX research 
  • Example of experience with generative research processes
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills are required
  • Experience as lead designer or researcher is preferred
  • Strong competency with quantitative analysis in spreadsheets
  • Meticulous attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets
  • Experience facilitating various qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Experience distilling research findings into themes and opportunities that inform design decisions
  • Experience translating research insights into intuitive design concepts
  • Experience designing research methodology for a range of project objectives
  • Ability to validate design concepts through user testing practices

What you can expect from our interview process.

Once we get through the applications, the interview process begins. These occur separately either at our studio or via zoom, with about 1-2 weeks in-between each. You will be notified along the way for exceptions, but it generally looks like this:

  • You’ll have a quick 30-minute chat with someone on our hiring team.
  • You’ll interview with one or two team members to review your experience. This normally takes about 1 hour.
  • You’ll interview with a Leadership member to discuss your fit within the organization. This conversation also takes about 60–90 minutes.

Where do you work?

At this time, ZoCo is only hiring residents of the greater-Columbus area. Our team takes a hybrid approach, and empowers both in-studio and remote work.

If we hire you, it’s because we think you’re brilliant and trust you to decide where you work each day. We share our objectives, and so long as you are meeting them, you’re free to pick the number of days you work in or out of the studio. Some in-person work will be necessary.
