2017 VentureReport


VentureOhio helps grow Ohio’s startup ecosystem and secure capital for Ohio startups. Each year, they report to venture capitalists on the activities and highlights from Ohio startups. To connect with potential entreprenurs and investors, ZoCo and VentureOhio collaborated to tell Ohio’s story in a 101 page, sophisticated report.

We had a big story to tell, so the book had to be easily scannable for a quick elevator pitch, but also have depth and a storyline for digging into the details. To celebrate the highlights from the year, VentureOhio hosts the VentureDinner for investors and startups. Naturally, we helped craft the collateral for this event, too.

Visual Strategy

The VentureReport starts with an elegant, brand-pattern, metallic-ink cover and distinct paper stock to create an upscale feeling of intrigue. Large, captivating photography, infographics, data visualizations, and strong typography allow readers to skim content or dive into the details.

Evolution of Style

In the 2017 VentureReport, we worked to marry the classic style that is typical of the report, with the new, vibrant VentureOhio website by incorporating bold, red callouts.


VentureOhio wanted to increase the number of digital VentureReport downloads in the first month by 20% over the previous year which we achieved in the first 24 hours.


To accompany the 2017 VentureReport, we created the event program, slide templates, and table cards for the VentureDinner. The event sold out and celebrated many of the most successful startups from Ohio.

ZoCo’s Night Out

The ZoCo team supported VentureOhio as they celebrated Ohio’s startup successes. We are proud to partner with such an impactful, local organization.

Investment One-Pager

Finally, we created a one page summary for outside investors that details the reasons why Ohio is the best place for investors and entrepreneurs.


Brand Extension

This was treated as an extension of the VentureReport brand, mimicking colors, typography, and icon styles.
