Context

Columbus Academy is a well-respected independent school for students in preschool through 12th grade. The academy is known for its superior academics and boasts a 100% rate of graduates attending college or university. Equally excellent are the arts, music, and athletic programs. Families from all around central Ohio apply every year for their children to be a part of this exclusive school.

ZoCo formed a relationship with Columbus Academy in 2011. We have worked with them since on successful campaigns and mini-campaigns to promote the school and their summer programs, elevate their brand image, and bolster their fundraising efforts.

In education, it is all about the numbers. Columbus Academy is already known for their academics, so to advertise their other notable programs and accomplishments, ZoCo leveraged the existing “Numbers Campaign” and strategy developed by Integrate, Inc. to feature statistics on these achievements. This campaign successfully spanned four years and was publicized in the greater Columbus area on billboards, magazines, newspapers, playbills, and online, showcasing all of the school’s unique features.

2011 marked Columbus Academy’s 100 year anniversary. To launch the school into their second century, a capital campaign was setup to fund major expansions to their campus, financial aid for students, and better teacher compensation. Using elements from the Columbus Academy brand, a new logo and identity was designed for this campaign. In the first year, $18.3 million of the $20 million goal was raised.

Early Concept Explorations

ZoCo was also tasked with creating the campaign around the Columbus Academy Summer Experience, a summer camp for kids of all ages. It still needed to work with the Academy’s brand, so we used a diagonal set type to reflect a more fun and less rigorous type of education. ZoCo developed an effective series of ads used across various medias to promote the camp.

Continuing our relationship in 2014, ZoCo worked with Columbus Academy to develop a new “infographic” campaign based around the launch of their new website which uses a modular grided layout. The theme of numbers and facts about their programs continued into this campaign, but we evolved the look of the ads to grow with their brand.
